A Diversity of Talents and Media
Carole's artistic journey began in New York City’s eclectic Greenwich Village art scene while attending Parson's School of Design. There she mastered the essential life-lesson that persistence, combined with a lifelong commitment to learning and growing, is essential for successful expression of an inspired personal vision.
When introduced by chance to sculpture and doll making in the mid-1970’s Carole was intrigued and energized by the artistic possibilities of combining her love of painting with sculpture. She spent the next two decades as one of a select group of artists who elevated the folk craft of doll making to a recognized fine art form. In 1978 Carole Bowling was the youngest artist ever elected to the prestigious National Institute of American Doll Artists (NIADA), whose membership includes many of the worlds finest doll artists.
Upon moving to the West Coast in 1997, the brilliant and endless variety of high-key colors so characteristic of California's Central Coast rekindled Carole's original ambition to become a painter. Compared to the visible spectrum in the Northeast, colors here struck her as pure, intense and exciting. An entirely new set of artistic possibilities emerged from this contrast, inspiring a change of focus to full-time painting. As part of her transition Carole is also pursuing a Fine Arts degree at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Carole truly reflects the Spirit of California…positive, energetic, vibrant and productive. Landscapes are frequent subjects, expressing a quality of serenity that belies the use of intense colors and light. Art lovers can expect to see many more paintings from Carole that reflect the timeless beauty and enduring values of the American West.
